Tonight, in the wake of a recent break up, I spent a good three hours listening to music and just realized how absolutely bonkers my playlist was tonight. Just throw a few names out there: Elvis Presley, Radiohead, Metallica, The Pixies, Jethro Tull, The Beatles, The B-52s, Janis Joplin, A Tribe Called Quest, Pantera, Ill Nino, etc etc.... Quite a mix.

Anyway, I was wondering what two artists everyone listens to that they think are the absolute parallel ends of their little music universe. Basically the two most different artists. I think mine must be the jazz king Miles Davis, and in the other corner probably the very hardcore band Dillinger Escape Plan.

On the one end of my scale I have the Village people.
Totally devastingly funny lyrics, great costumes and immortal tunes.

At the other end of the spectrum I have Boney M.
Intricately warm lyrics, great hairdo's and a serious dance beat.

A varied, eclectic taste it always good.
I'd guess the extremes I listen to (and isn't it ironic that the band "Extreme" are MOR crap?) are:
The Berzerker (or Cannibal Corpse)
to
The Orb (or maybe some classical, which I listen to a lot)
in terms of loud/quiet fast/slow extremes.

I just finished watching the video for "Hurt" by Johnny Cash (by just I mean like literally ten seconds ago). Still the only music video that draws at least one tear every time I watch it. Cash was the man.

Ah, what songs (not videos) invariably make you sob? I can't listen to Tom Waits' Georgia Lee without crying..."why wasn't God watching"...sob...

Wonder what the new Cash film is like.

To fit the spread of music I would listen to I would need three groups

Rascal Flats. Beastie boys, and Pink Floyd.

That should give you the idea

I think the only two songs that get me almost every time are "Creep" by Radiohead and "Yesterday" by The Beatles. "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart" by Wilco has gotten me once or twice though. This is all leaps and bounds away from back when I was in my early teens and listening to Korn when I was depressed...

Is Wilco more popular now? I like their stuff, though I wouldn't sell my soul (again) for it.

Glad you gave up on the Korn. A Korn-fed boy is a nasty sight.
