Beckham's big weapon is his crossing, and he tends to do that from deeper rather than getting to the by-line. Having an attacking player like Lennon ahead of him gives him more time and space to cross, if anything.
Beckham at right back? Please tell me you are joking. He is too important an attacking player to be playing right back. England would lose out on attacking options.
However, I don't think Beckham is a good enough defender once we're up against stronger opposition. I'd save that option for if we need to chase. Today was a matter of breaking down a team where we were dominating possession. That won't happen against Brazil/Argentina/Italy/Spain/etc.

Crouch's hair pulling was disgraceful!
He should be penalised for it and have the goal disallowed 😠
He shouldn't have the goal disallowed, since refs mistakes can't be retroactively corrected but it would be good to see Sven benching him for the next match. Rooney's probably in, so Crouch can even save face in a way.

Originally posted by expressiveoutburstI admit, at first glance it does look nice but I really strongly disagree with playing Beckham at right back, and to be honest we both know Errikson would never consider it. He could well, however, consider dropping Owen; see

Originally posted by expressiveoutburstIf I were England manager I would start with my formation, and then at half time change something. If we are winning by a reasonable margin I'd bring Owen on for Rooney, to try and give him so match confidance, and I'd like to see Carrick come on for Lamps or Gerrard if one of them is having a poor game. If we are struggling against Sweden, bring some more attacking players on, maybe leave Rooney on until the 60th to be swopped with Crouch if we get desperate, bring Owen on for Carragher and maybe try what you suggested playing Becks at right back. I suppose it could work.

Originally posted by Freddie2006That's alot of changing about but the system they finished with yesterday, with the exception of Crouch being on instead of Owen, was the system I said to use. 🙂 So he has kind of done it before, but yesterday he did it with desperation,'we must win here' kind of mentality, but if he starts with it gets the goals, then he can relax the game then and play it out. I'm not a fan of doing that but it is Sven we're talking about. 😉
