English arrogance in sport

There are three teams in the whole wide world which irritate me.
The unbelievable point being that I don't care at all about sports...
Yet...there are three teams which get on my mammary protubrances like the German police on porno tourists to Taiwan.

Honestly. The arrogance of said 3 teams is beyond recognition. They are so arrogant they make US foreign policy seem reflective!

The three teams are:

THE ENGLISH
Obviously. Never has there ever been a more arrogant race in the history of humanity.
Is this racist? I hope so! They are so arrogant that losing to them feel like poetry.

THE AMERICANS
Surely this must come from their pathetic goal of world domination (in which the English have so severely failed that they're sucking up to Bush like he was the momma pig of economic future) is so well mirrored in sport, it's near unbelievable.
The world series? Yup. The US participates...no one else? Well, maybe Israel and a few other countries they've bought to make it look global.

Which sports do they play? Football? no...I wonder why.
And yes, my distress when they beat Portugal was so unmeasurable that various stars in the sky disappeard in dismay.

THE DUTCH
They dress in orange for god's sake. These people, when it comes to sport, are so disorientated that they seem unhuman in their behaviour.
Seemingly one or other French footballer was given nationality so he could play with the French team. This is also the case with the US football team for the previous world cup. The Dutch found this absolutely unforgivable.
But...half the Dutch team come from Southern America!!!
Seriously, I'm not kidding. But because it's an ex colony...it is okay...

Yeah. Right.

Well anyways, these three countries have various things in common.
1. They're reasonably good at the sports they play
(it should be mentioned that they spend so much money on this realisation that their health services are severely lacking).

2. When they are winning, they get a moral boost and play better.
Basically proving that the game doesn't count, only winning.

3. When they are losing, they get so depressed they fall into a vicious circle of dependency, and since they're depending on the team that's losing...they lose even worse.

4. When the team is winning the support is well heard, and when the team is losing, the support is distinctly quiet.
The support, obviously, thinks that if you're not winning, you don't need supporting!!!

And that's these three teams in a nut-bloody-shell.

I was just watching rugby. England vs. France.
England was well ahead in the first half. During the break the commentators were saying things like:

"Well...it's unbelievable France is so bad. This is gonna be a walk-over."

and

"There's no way we can lose this match now..."

and

"Just listen to that England support..."

Oh the Condola irony of it...

You'll often find socialists supporting the underdog in any conflict, none more more so than I when it comes to sport.
I'd even rather see Outer-bloody-Mongolia win the world cup that either Holland, England or America!!!

But, when it comes to sport I do support France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Germany...
Do you know why? Because they love their sport. Not just the winning.

And so, after England lost their pre-destined win against France, I just had to rant.

PARTY ON!!!

Israel in the World Series?!
Last season Montreal had a team. But as far as I know that's it for non-US teams.

As I specified...it was an example...

And like proof, examples don't have to be coherent with reality.

Toronto has a team that is marginally more profitable than the Expos were. We were the World Series Champions in '92 and '93 and, at one time, held the record for yearly attendance.

Those were the days alright. 😏

Toronto also has a beutiful stadium that you can get into for dirt cheap (compared to Fenway, but all parks are pretty cheap compared to Fenway when I think about it). It's on my list of things to do, visiting Toronto when the RedSox are in town.

Oh come on, commentators always talk rubbish I don't think you can use that as an example of national arrogance.
However, if you were talking football I would agree with you. I can't understand why nobody can see that the English football team is only average in terms of world teams.

Not entirely sure I see the link between sports funded by the fans and advertisers and a government funded health service.

Sports aren't only funded by by fans and adertisers. The person who gave you a rec. for this post should be dragged outside and shot.

Take, for instance, the olympic games. An aweful lot of tax payers money is invested just to try to get the games.

Take, for instance, the new Wembley stadium. That's another whole sack full of tax payers money which would be better spent on inner-city kids.

Football clubs and everything are government sponsored as well. I know here in Holland that the local councils help fund the various stadiums, clubs and what-not.

So, because these governments spend money on sport, they're not spending it on health.

Oh yeah, didn't think of those. Okay, fair enough. I'm big enough to admit I'm wrong. I'm off to shoot the person who recced me 🙂

Don't apologise!!
Argue that there is not a direct causal relationship between spending on sport and failing health. For example, the government spends a lot of money on a lot of things which could also be said to be depriving health e.g. Iraq, advertising, foriegn aid, etc.
