Took a goal of real quality to open up Austria, but a team that believes it won't concede can be patient and feel that the goal will come.
I like the idea of an England team going into a tournament with more emphasis on clean sheets, but do we have the culture to be patient. Maybe the crowd and media will turn on that version of England and the longer it stays nil nil in a game the greater the tension, as opposed to Italy's patient belief in the way they play.
-Removed-Time will tell if Italy are hurt by extra time. If they get taken to extra time in the quarter final as well I wouldn't back them to win the tournament. To some extent surviving extra time depends on whether you have a strong enough squad to rotate. In the club game that's an advantage to the clubs that can afford to buy success.
Interesting to watch an international goalkeeper beaten at the near post from a corner. Italy definitely took their foot off the gas after the second goal despite Austria showing no sign of giving up.
