That's true. On a similar note I saw a programme recently about illegal Chinese immigrants living in London. They were living packed into overcharged rented accomodation and earned money by selling copied DVDs. Thing was they were getting robbed for their DVDs and earnings on a weekly, sometimes even daily basis and were returning home with no money, ...[text shortened]... t is, the destitute Chinese showed a bit of enterprise lacking in the scum that preyed on them.

The only spin kicks were landing on Chinese heads by the looks of things.
I grew up in Hongcouver and the little bastards were always pulling a Kung Fu stance, "Waaaaaaaah!" move on you. "WaaaaHAH!"
Originally posted by Sicilian SmaugI mean, I think I heard somewhere that for many asians (not all) there is some gene that makes them feel sick when drinking (even small amounts of) alchohol.
Wouldn't that make there be more drunken Chinese swaying, vomiting and sprawling all over our streets - because or their lower alcohol tolerance?
I found this on a website (I don't know how reliable it is):
"Some people of Asian descent ( perhaps as much as ½ ) carry a “defective” copy of the gene for aldehyde dehydrogenase which works slower than normal, causing a bottleneck effect during the metabolism of ethanol. The net result is a build-up of acetaldehyde, which can lead to flushing, nausea, malaise, and headache, a reaction sometimes referred to as “Asian flush”. However, this does not contribute significantly to decreased alcohol tolerance, as ethanol is broken down at nearly the same rate.
Some scientists have speculated that the relatively low incidence of alcoholism among those of Asian descent may be a result of this mechanism. In effect, they feel too sick to continue drinking before they actually become drunk."
Originally posted by rbmorris" Alcohol flush reaction, (also known as Asian flush disease, Asian blush, Asian glow and ALDH deficiency) is a condition where the body cannot break down ingested alcohol completely, due to a missense polymorphism that encodes the enzyme, aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2), normally responsible for breaking down acetaldehyde, a product of the metabolism of alcohol "
Isn't it true that Asians have less of a tolerance for alcohol? That could have something to do with it.
" As much as half of the people of Asian descent are considered to be sensitive to alcohol due to this condition"

"I would like to verify the witness's statement. For years now a growing number of my constituents have been of Asian decent -- and I have come to know them well. They have honored me with their support and with their friendship. Indeed I can proudly say some of my very best friends are Asian-Americans. However, Mr. CHAIRMAN, at this time very unfortunately I have to leave these proceedings in order to preside over a very important meeting with my own committee. But before I leave I do want to say this. These hearings on alcoholism are in no way what-so-ever a slur upon the great Asian people. Because I can state from my own knowledge and experience -- that Asian-Americans are among the most loyal -- most law-abiding -- patriotic, hard working American citizens in this land. And it would be a shame. Mr. CHAIRMAN if we allowed a few rotten apples to bring a bad name to the whole barrel. Because from the time of the great Bruce Lee up through the time of Jackie Chan right up to the present day -- Asian-Americans have been pioneers in building and defending our great nation. They are the soil o' the earth and one of the backbones of this country."
