You may be confusing two different platforms. FaceTime is Apple. FaceBook is Mark Zuckerberg.

Of course FB has many satisfied users who stay in touch over long distances, apparently for free. The hidden costs are masked and for many users probably irrelevant. There are other social media platforms which don't sell user data to third parties or monetarize children; just sayin'.

I don't have FB on my phone. WhatsApp is far more convenient to use than the sprawling [and abominable] FB.

I'm not sure. I suppose the only way to know is to try it and see if people like it. Personally I think Facebook is overrated. I used it to get info. on a class reunion, but shut my account down a few years ago.
