Magician is good alright, although I think Darkness at Sethanon is my favourite from the series. I also like the more political bent of the Empire series.

The Malazan Book of the Fallen - Steven Erikson. Astonishing scope.

Empire series is brilliant as well.

The books that got me started were The DragonLance Chronicles by Weiss and Hickman. Brilliant stuff.

I enjoyed the Ursula LeGuin Earthsea books that she wrote in the 70s

Does that inclue "Sword and Sorcery" fiction?

Cause although LOTR is probably considered the best...I am a HUGE Robert E. Howard nut.

Yup

Anything where people have to kill things using either swords or magic is fantasy in my book.

Oh - I also created a club called FanFicFans if anyone is interested.

Call of Madness (1990)

Mission of Magic (1991)

Sage of Sare (1992)

The Wizard King (1993)

This is a four book series known as the 'Caithan Crusade', written by Julie Dean Smith (who is now my wife). They're all out of print, but the first three can be gotten from amazon.com for 1¢. The last one is the hardest to find (and is the most expensive).

Sorry, fantasy fiction is for those who don't want to read difficult books. They are a shade more illiterate than comic books.

Al right, that was a bit pompous a more than a little harsh. Particularly so to those who love elves and wizards.

I suppose you have the same opinion about Science Fiction?

Not so. Sci Fi is more thought out and not nearly so frivolous.

That's a generalization if I've ever heard one...

Most recent I've read is Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. Superbly crafted and highly enjoyable.
