Yeah, I saw today a documentary about Scottish cuisine, which is basically all deep fried and haggis... and when I was leaving home, at the middle of the show, I heard a chef saying "and haggis must be served with nips and tatees".

What does it mean?

Is it Scottish slang? Do they speak English in Scotland or is it a dialect of English? How do they serve the nips and tatties?

Plain boiled and mashed or is there a special process?

I fell in love with the deep fried university cafe when I saw it in the TV show. I can't wait to go to Edinburgh!

I realise you're taking the piss, but if you want real Scottish food, Venison is quite nice.

I don't like piss, I prefer food. However, I am serious about the University Café, at least what I saw on TV. Have you ever been there? It's supposed to be famous.

Isn't it Edinburgh the most famous town in Scotland? What are the other important cities? Is the food the same in all of them or does it depend on the region?

In the old days, oysters and clarret was the food stuff of the poor (a few hundred years ago). The food would differ somewhat from place to place, but most tourist traps will serve haggis.

Scotland was never a rich country, so the food is mostly simple. Stovies, mince and tatties, porridge and the likes. Our Salmon is world famous though.
