Beatles, Lusy in the Sky with diamonds: I could have sworn they sung "the girl with cholytus goes by", not "the girl with calydoscope eyes".

I can't remember the song name but 50% of the lyrics were "sail away, sail away, sail away", which I initially misheard for "save a whale...".

I think this one was by Enya........who nobody can understand a bloody word she sings !!!!!!!!!

This next one isn't so much a case of misunderstood lyrics, but lyrics that were misinterpreted within the context of the song. The first few times I heard "Come a Little Bit Closer" by Jay Black and the Americans, I really only paid attention to the chorus, which went like this:

Come a little bit closer, you're my kind of man,
So big and so strong,
Come a little bit closer, I'm all alone,
And the night is so long.

Now, if all you pay attention to is these words, it would sound like Jay Black is singing to another man. When I finally asked my mother if I was really hearing what I was hearing, she told me to pay attention to the next verse. So then I realized that he was relaying to us what was said to him by the girl in the cafe (and ultimately, what she said to Jose).

Blinded by the light, by Mannfred Mann's Earth band has got to have some of the most classically misunderstaood lyrics. I can't post what some of my friends claim the lyrics are but just listen to the song.

Blinded by the light, revved up like a duece another runner in the night.

I just feel I have to make two things perfectly clear about Blinded by the light...

1. It was written by Bruce Springsteen (it's from his first album).
2. The original version is 100.000 times better than Mannfred Mann's Earth band's version. And there is no misunderstanding the lyrics on it.

There. Had to get that off my chest!

Forgot who sings this song but I've heard two different other lines being sung to it. " I'm blue, I'm in need of a guy, I'm in need of a guy, I'm in need of a guy" and " I'm blue, if I were green I would die, if I were green I would die, if I were green I would die"

The song is called "Blue" by Eiffel 56. The actual lyrics are nonsensical. They go like this:

"I'm Blue, Da ba dee da ba di."

I heard that the Boss actually wrote this for Manfredd Mann and then later sort of covered his own song as it were.

And yes, Bruce's version is waaaaay better

I also remember someone posted a misheard lyric in the 'Lyrics Game' thread in the Puzzles and Posers forum. It was from the Elton John song 'Benny and the Jets', the line was misheard as "She's got electric boobs, and mohair pubes"

IMQLUO, a group of hamsters without instruments covering any of Bruce Springsteen's songs would still be miles better than he is.

In David Bowie's TVC15: "Oh mighty fish you were mine, Oh Oh TVC15".

However, this is too bizarre even by Bowie's standards and the boring truth is of course just: "Oh my TVC15, Oh Oh TVC15".
