I would have to go by the feedback of those who were alive and serving then. While there are a few parts of SPR that exist strictly for cinemagraphic purposes, I have not met a WWII vet yet who said "I didn't like that movie." That's what I choose to go on.
Well, I suppose we all have our different ways of reaching our opinions and repsonding emotionally and intellectually to artistic things.

Well crap, I guess I don't like any war movies.

I hate it when they say, "Here come the "German" tanks." And they're American tanks from the 50s-60s with crosses painted on them. I like to see Tigers etc.

Quite true. That's not to say I don't understand your impression of SPR, nor am I saying that it's incorrect; I came away with a different impression, that's all.

Where eagles dare, Eagle has landed - oldies but goodies. Thin red line, Too late the hero, On the beach, Bridge too far. All still watchable.

What about 300 - that is a pretty epic war movie, and one of the greatest historical sacrifices.

I brought that one up.

They really did a good job on it. Even got Drew Brees using some of the lines for those undefeated Saints.
