Following on from the slang thread.
PICNIC (for computer problems) : Problem in chair, not in computer
LOMBARD (to refer to bankers, hedge fund managers etc) : Loads of money, but a real d*ckhead
And a couple of postal acronyms from the war, for returning soldiers:
Polite : BURMA (Be upstairs ready, my angel)
Less polite : NORWICH (you can google that one if not familiar)

You know that girl sitting by herself watching The Avengers on opening day?
Yeah, that was me, I'm such a nerd.
Not even remotely dorky
Hope this helps.
Also, you are on a chess website so I am thinking you may be amongst kindred spirits....😉

Brings to mind that famous, probably apocryphal, computer teacher who hated acronyms at his school so much he called his latest Scheme of Work: Scientific Handbook of Information Technology.
About 15-20 years ago I had to work on the launch of a new government backed project to get the housing market going (so that worked out well).
Anyway, the scheme was called Housing Investment Trusts. The first people to try and launch one was the UK property rental company Savills.
You'd be surprised how far we got until someone spotted that the Savills Housing Investment Trust wasn't going to work. Though yours truly begged them to stick with it for all the free publicity it would get.
So it became the First Housing Investment Trust, and the launch flopped.
Happy days....🙂
