Who are your favourites, excluding the pair of self anointed ones we have here that is?
Cassandra and Andromache aside, I quite like Josie Long, and recently Francesca Fiorentini made me laugh [helped by the fact she's a sound analyst of Trumpian America].

Thank you for the effort you made in your reply and for your reading suggestions.

My father was able to speak a little Russian, he always said it was the most beautiful of languages he had ever heard, though unlike his siblings wasn’t born there. His family fled Russia in 1917, leaving behind a 3 year old girl named Hala, ‘because they could not afford to feed her’. I met some of my fathers family in 1966 when they travelled to Poland from Russia. One, a cousin of my age, displayed what an accomplished violinist she was. An older cousin, a concert pianist, once visited us in Wales around 1980. My father couldn’t read music but could play by ear and loved stringed instruments. He was great with his hands and once made a guitar, using mother of pearl buttons to decorate the border of the sound hole.

Hala - have only just realised it means ‘halo around the moon’. What a wonderful name πŸ™‚

Great, another divegeester-style thread with overtones of 'getting the dig in'.

Your mentor has wasted no time.
Well well, I bravely stick my neck out of my bomb shelter for a moment only to be pelted with stones.

I quite liked the UK TV sketch show Smack the Pony with Fiona Allen, Doon Mackichan and Sally Phillips. I don't know whether they did or do stand up.

I’m also more a fan of women being funny in a show tbh.
Loved Ashley Jensen as Maggie Jacobs in Extras

I thought Absolutely Fabulous was exactly what it said on the tin.

I have been rendered less interested in stand up comedy ever since I started hearing Stewart Lee deconstructing and subverting it. I can't see Michael McIntyre the same way again. [Not that I had any particular way of seeing him previously.]

Favorite comedienne: Lily Tomlin.
