I agree with Schindler's List. A very powerful movie.

Maybe a bit too powerful for some.

It's a beautiful Life with Roberto Benigni is another great movie depicting that era.

I vote Casablanca s a must see for any movie buff.

What can I say....I'm a sucker for the classics.

Schindler's list is a classic? I thought a film had to be at least thirty some
years before it makes classic. It's like with music. An artist releases two
albums in a timespan of say two years and on the third his
"best of"-album with all the classics are released.

Bah!

Though it's a good film. You'd have to be dead not to be affected by it.
The way Spielberg put only that little girl in colour was beautiful. Made
her as precious as every little child is. And when I saw her lying dead on
that wagon, it stirred up rage and sorrow inside so much that I'm still
saddened by it. :'( Excellent film.

I'd like to recommend another "classic". Big Fish. I know, it's not based
on reality like Schindler's list, but I still think it's a brilliant work of art.

I would recommend two films directed by Fernando Meirelles: 'City of God' and 'The Constant Gardener'. The photography is breathtaking!

Also I very much liked the following:-

Festen
Hidden (Cache)
Italian for Beginners
King's Game
Koktebel
The Motorcycle Diaries
The Station Agent
Time Out
Un Coer En Hiver

I see someone mentioned K-pax. I had forgotten about it but I liked it a lot too. I saw Searching for Bobby Fischer for the first time a few months ago and really enjoyed it. Once I sat down I couldn't leave it.

Well, you shouldn't say you're a sucker for classics if only one out of
three favourite choices is a classic, then. 😞

that kind of naive and pathetic scenes are the exact reason why spielberg's films disgust me so much. he just has to plug them in everywhere. the kid was swimming in human feces, and he makes it cute. shiny clean white skin, glimmering big eyes and all that. it disturbs me that in his movies everything is always so clean and sanitized. jaws was probably the last movied he made that had any edge.

those kind of things have their place though, in movies targeted at small children.
