There was a plot on that day to blow up the king, but it was foiled.

We have the fireworks to remind ourselves to be wary of crazy people who might try and blow stuff up in the future...

Groaty pudding (also known as Groaty Dick) is a traditional dish from the Black Country in England. It is made from soaked groats, beef, leeks, onion and beef stock which are baked together at a moderate temperature of approximately 150 degrees Celsius for up to 16 hours. In the Black Country it is traditional to eat groaty pudding on Guy Fawkes Night.

The whole United States should be lighting off fireworks in sheer joy and happiness that we only have one more year of Bush.

Remember, remember the 5th of November
Gunpowder, treason & plot.

Prior to 1605 it was traditional to have bonfires (bone-fires) around the end of October/ beginning of November. But after the failed plot of 1605 (when a bunch of Catholics tried to blow up JamesI) the celebrations started to take place on the 5th to commemorate the discovery of the plot. Later that century it was made LAW to celebrate the 5th November! That law was repealed in late 19thC.

In some parts of England there are individual customs and the 5th is sometimes referred to as 'Pope's Day' when traditionally an effigy of the Pope was burnt on the bonfire (nowadays its Guy!)

I believe Popes Day is still celebrated in the colonies (???) like Canada, New Zealand and New England.

I am currently teaching the GunPowder Plot to my class of 10year-olds!

They hate their pets.

I hope everybody who lets off fireworks in any residential area gets mauled by their own scared and confused dogs.
