I suspect tru colonization will end up being completely mechanized with frozen embryos and seeds. Still the idea of Space Octopi is intriguing.
Heed the warning of '2001 A Space Odyssey'. Total mechanisation could be fraught with danger. I would want a back up crew of highly trained Octopi all day long! In my opinion the movie in fact missed the opportunity for a far more lively story line there.

Edit: Can't fault the music they chose though.

I need to watch that again.

It could be argued that HAL was just sticking to the Mission and Bowman/Poole we’re in the way. The malfunctioning HAL could have been guarded against with redundant systems and self testing protocols.

I guess ultimately that would have been the chief Octopus's call. HAL or the humans. It would certainly have been a tense moment.

Fish problem?
It's all about hygiene.
Talk to her nicely and solve the problem 🤔

It's a tricky one. Personally I would simply root around behind the sofa and only comment that you are searching for a possibly mislaid fish if directly asked. That way you are at least behind the sofa if things kick off.

Some people pay extra for that. You have, of course, familiarized yourself with Japanese tentacle porn right?

Nope.

Just midgets and Brazilian fart porn.

Excellent, I can only assume there must be Cephalopod actors involved who are low budget. 2001 the remake is looking increasingly viable.

It would be a perverse horror story. Japanese crew. Cephalopod symbiotes. They wouldn’t be out of the solar system before that descended into mad, cannibalistic perversion. Still i’d crowd fund it.

I think it's a runner, but I would still keep the original music. Sometimes the juxtaposition of contrasts can be a real winner.

The malfunctioning HAL
Most of you will know this but the name HAL is derived from the previous letter in IBM

Exactly! It was also a true story when I described an Octopus leaving its tank at night and crossing whole rooms whilst exploring the house. It was being kept by a scientist who realised what was going on and set up cameras. Admittedly the space programme concept is ambitious but frankly if we don't include them they'll soon be running programmes of their own.
