Fish Tanks

I just jumped into the deep end (all puns intended) and bought a fish tank this weekend. 20 gallon w/ heater and filter. Anyone care to give some tips to a first time owner? I want to minimize the 21 Flush salutes. I must say though, the sound of the filter is very soothing.

Will it be a fresh water or salt water tank?

Don't buy hatchet fish and let the lid open!!:'( As a kid I remember finding a school of fish lying on the carpet, apparently they thought they were lemmings.

When should we go metric?
It would be easier to visulise the size if it had been in litres.
I still buy my perfume by the gallon.

75.71 liters in 20 gallons.
1 gallon = 3.79 liters.

I always thought it would be cool to have a Gatorade tank in the house.... although I'm not sure if all of the vitamins and minerals would be healthy for the fish! πŸ™„

Is a UK gallon to a US Gallon what a British pound is to a Euro?

I think you might find there are more Belgian freaks to the English eccentric.

My top tip: don't give them names.

Any fish that I name dies. All the fish that I haven't named survive.

I therefore have a tank full of fish called 'fish'.

I have had a poor track record with fish. But two things I did learn the hard way are: Make sure your fish are compatible and that they won't eat each other. Don't put them in water straight out of the tap. I would personally recommend those little aquatic albino frogs. They're more entertaining than fish, and generally a little more robust. I did manage to keep a pair of those alive for a few years. But don't put them in the same tank with fish.

No names. Check.
Generic fish. Check.

Does that mean that girlfriends without names will last longer???
