I said in my opinion. I am not a mod, luckily for him.
I think vast quantities of spam flooding every thread, refusing to stop would be grounds for banning if I ran the site. Which I don't 🙂

PS. I won't post on this subject again. It only encourages replies.

Hey everyone,
I think my original post in this thread has somehow been turned around. I wasn't suggesting that the forum committee would become moderators. The moderators are already established.

My thought was that this forum committee would work together to review and discuss ideas on how to improve the forum, and after sorting through the numerous suggestions and giving them some thought and discussion, one member of the committee would then discuss any worthwhile ideas with the site owners.

The idea was to discuss the idea here and see if anyone was interested, and then those who want to help out could volunteer to be part of the committee.

There was nothing mentioned or even hinted that specified it should be pawnstars only. The ideal committee would be made up of a variety of people who represent all of the members who regularly use the forum.

If enough members volunteer, they should select one in their group to be the director, who would then have the task of getting the committee functional, and would also act as the point of contact between the committee and the owners.

So in conclusion, The forum committee idea isn't about becoming moderators, and it isn't about nomination of someone else to be on the committee.

I'm not organizing this committee. I was only offering an idea for discussion here in the general forum.

regards, Marc

here is what you can do,
1 dont spam, put more content in your posts, think about what your saying.

2 use less 😀's in your posts, one or to is enof

3 others will respect you if you dont say stupid/annoing stuff or dumb threats ans instead say smart and inteigent stuff.

4 try and use less short-cuts use "for" not "4", "to"/"too" not "2", 'you'/'are' not 'u'/'r'...etc...

5 if you do spam put it in the longest thead in RHP that way not everyone has to look at your posts all day

do this and no-one will complain

Who decides what's inteigent (sic)? Obviously, more objective criteria are in order. I talked about a rule system like this privately with a very knowledgeable and level-headed individual, and he's convinced me that such things are doomed to failure. We all know what constitutes a foolish post. If several thousand others agree that some individual's posts are foolish and non-productive, I see no real problem with banning that individual.

I have not discussed any of the following with them, and do not know if this idea would be acceptable to them or not, but.... Ma ...[text shortened]... be established for tournaments, site functions, site help, etc.

Just my thought,

Another well thought out and interesting idea from Marc 🙂

However, I think we already have a committee and we are ALL members. As things stand ANYONE can post in the Site Ideas forum.

One of the problems that I think Marc is trying to overcome is the fact that the flood of ideas that are constantly being generated is obviously too much for Russ to cope with on the coding front and also ideas can simply 'get lost' amongst the threads. Perhaps if we had a poll/voting feature introduced at least the members would be able to show their support for particular suggestions. It would also be really nice if there was some sort of flag on posts that had actually been read by Russ.

I agree with the idea that mods should be upgraded to "Editers"
You post:Ed decides if it is included.

After reading your post, I believe you're right, Andrew.

Numerous ideas and suggestions are posted in the various forums, and as we see them move down and off the bottom of the page, we really don't know if they were noticed by Chris or Russ.

How many people does it take to get you to realize that nobody ...[text shortened]... yourself into an outcast and a pariah. If that's what you want, then that's what you'll get.
I have to say that I have been driven away from the forums lately (to the point that a lot of you probably don't even know who I am) because of all the spamming... as well as overwork.
I like the idea of a committee to suggest ideas to improve the site generally, not just the forums, get feedback on these ideas from members, think these through and relate these ideas back to Chris and Russ. I think Rwingett, Bbarr, Rhymester, Tony, MMiller and UncleAdam should be on this committee as they represent a fairly wide but responsible cross section of the site's users.
I also like the idea of creating two kinds of general forums, one for older fuddy duddies like myself and one for younger members. You would still be allowed to enter either forum but the content would be moderated according to the nature of the forum. For example, any post featuring the words "u r 2 cool" or any more than 3 icons at one time appearing in the older forum would be moderated, but this content appearing in the younger forum would be acceptable.
What do you think?

Ben

I suggested a forum for the younger members of this site a while ago.Fears were then raised that this might be abused.Perverts slipping into the kiddies room so to speak.

My problem with this is that this is not a chatroom but a forum for ideas etc.The internet ,when not monitored carefully is a dangerous place for kids, end of the story.I promise you I will watch closely over my daughter's shoulder the day she wonders into the weird and wonderful world called the internet.

Give the younger members their own forum.Perverts will always be around and once you are on the net,no telling where you might end up.At least kids will have a forum where they can then be protected (to some extend) by the moderators. The adults in turn will be protected (to some extend) from spamming etc.

I also like Andrew's idea of giving members a vote.for instance, should CFC lose posting privilidges?Members vote.Pawn Star vote counts 2,non Pawn stars can vote but their ote counts for 1.

We can then also vote for ideas.

Johan

This is an interesting idea, but I can't see how any kind of publically-elected or self nominated committee would work. I can only see it descending into chaos or becoming cliquey.

To my mind any such committee should be chosen by the owners, and to my mind the committee members should be moderators. That way the same people could be involved in policy and implementation. Presumably it's the case now that people with an important issue or a good idea can contact a mod to discuss it?

Mick 🙂
(and yes, I know that I've not paid and my opinion is only 50% as valid as the rest of yous)

Anyone with good ideas can post them in the 'Help and Ideas' forum.

The moderators only role is to remove offensive or inappropriate posts that they are alerted to.
Usually they act anonymously and don't bother to justify their decisions.
We don't even know who all the moderators are, as there has never been a complete list published (we see some names, but not all of them).
The moderators are mysterious figures, appointed in secrecy, accountable to nobody but the site owners.

The list of moderators has been posted before, but you must have missed it, so here it is one more time, (complete list) :

Russ
Chrismo
-----------------
mwmiller
Rhymester
vaknso
Flash
T1000
!~TONY~!
UncleAdam
wWarrior

When we remove a post, we do usually contact the person who made the post and explain to them why it was removed. We do this by private message. We don't always do this, as quite often there is no need, such as when the post is completely missing the text. In the case of someone posting offensive language, our message is usually totally ignored, so we thereafter remove the post and don't bother making further explanations. Those people usually end up getting banned by the owners eventually.

So we're probably not as mysterious as you suggest...

Do moderators have a decision in things?
