Geez! I read about gas taxes and income tax reductions which are SUPPOSED to be revenue neutral!!! Who is either naive or stupid enough to believe that???? AND:
WHY aren't every single person on here not INUNDATING their city offices with DEMANDS that they get busy NOW and get a timing system or a demand system which will make it unnecessary to hit the brakes, except when a turn is made or you're not going within ten MPH of the speed limit??? The city of Phx actually MIS-timed the lights back in 1974 to INcrease the gas tax revenues as I was here and it was obvious to anyone with a brain! The city of Glendale Mayor and a city councilman sat at my dinner table and told me there was no money to time their damn lights! When I asked them why in hell they could spend money to install MORE, why they couldn't spend money to TIME them, they said the "Public" demanded more lights but I was the only one complaining about the timing!! C'mon people! In this city alone we could save over a BILLION dollars/Year at current pricing!!! Over a BILLION BUCKS!!! Just sitting there waiting for someone with brains to do it!!! AND ANY city which has the waste this city has, the officials in charge should be arrested for misfeasance in office!!! Clear back in 1975, at a city employee4's urging I wrote a letter showing 11 different problems with specific lights: From one intersection which has a three way light at a two way intersection (Means BOTH directions sit there and don't move during 1/3 of EVERY cycle!!) to a light at one of the busiest intersections in Phx which was set for demand operation during rush hour, and timed during all other times (Backwards from efficient operation)

Arizona is a beautiful place, but all the governments (state, county and city) suck!

??? We pay whatever the rest of the world does for a barrel. OPEC isn't giving anyone any deals.

That may well have been a reference to tax levels, the USA's tax levels on oil are much lower than that of Europe's after all...

We're paying well over US$10 per gallon (The average unleaded price in my area today is £1.18 per Litre, $10.58 per gallon) Diesel is even more.
Most of that is tax, calculated as a percentage, so our pump prices rise much faster than the barrel price.
AND we pay to drive in London. AND we've got speed cameras everywhere. AND we're starting to get toll roads.....
Trust me - you've got it easy so far.

Yeah, ande a LARGE part of the reason is that you don't "Moan" a lot!!! Government will do ANYTHING it thinks it can get away with! With you guys stoically taking anything your gov. wants to dish out, don't blame the rest of us for your high prices! You're the one with nationalized health care after all, not us! I, at least, tell my govern. that, "I'm mad as Hel* and I'm not gonna take it anymore!" to quote a rather famous movie! To that end I've written letters to the editor, my elected officials and the govern. in general! If enough of the "silent" majority don;t get up off their as*es THIS time there won't BE a next!!! With our STUPID and counter-productive "Homeland Security" we've lost ESSENTIAL freedoms we traditionally had and no one even shows they care! We are no longer safe in our cars and homes from arbitrary search and siezure, NOT under a court's supervision!! We can be KILLED by our government on a presidential order and no one gripes! Geez, what's next?? Sadaam had nothing on Bush! Now we learn our government uses torture to extract information from "terrorists"! I don't even mind as long as WE, as a people get to define who a "terrorist" IS!!! NOT the government!

I didn't know that either? Are you sure? It seems to me that Euro cars have a lower compression rating than most US cars, so could use lower rated fuels?? Another problem are the thieves, who assign higher prices to a lower cost fuel such as diesel!! We ALL should know that MORE diesel can be made from the same raw oil as gasoline, therefore should be lower priced!! (About 20% - even with the additive package to make it burn without the soot we're used to) AND now all new diesels have a regenerating soot "burner" in the exhaust which will be responsible for dozens if not HUNDREDS of brush fires over the next few years, but no one will take responsibility for them! Let alone the government which mandated them!! AND all you guys who've heard you can burn used french fry oil in your diesel at a 75% mix (75% french fry oil/25% diesel) IT'S TRUE!!! I have a friend who's used it for over three years!! He starts on a 50/50 mix and then goes to a 75/25 mix while driving! It runs smooth and has as much power (if not more) than it had on straight diesel! And he has a route he works for irrigation which goes past 25-30 resteraunts he has deals with to pick up their used oil!! They were PAYING people $400/Barrel to get rid of it!! He has over 500 gallons of used oil he continuously filters in his back yard tank, so it's ready for use just as it comes from the tank!

Nope. 'Regular' UK petrol is 95 RON and the only widely available alternative is 'Premium' fuel for higher compression engines which is around 98 RON.
