I did not think you to be a German. Why would the Germans call the U.S. Marines Devildogs? There seems to be a thought that the Germans did not use the term for the U.S. Marines.

As I said, I had never heard the word before, or that legend about Germans calling the U.S. Marines "Teufelshunde", so I have no idea if it's true. Have you read the article I found and linked to on the first page of this thread? It seems to be quite thorough.

I started reading that web page last night and finished it today. The U.S. Marines took the term and liked it so much that they have adopted the English Bulldog as their unofficial mascot.
