Is someone gonna hit me if I say "Who cares"?
Hehe I made the mistake of cheering for the hungarians at a friendly game between the two national teams... my overly patriotic seat neighbors would have liked to toss me over the railing I think.
Personally, I think either Brazil or Germany will win. I hope Brazil does, they look better... and in my opinion they also play better. Plus, German football emotions are more than I can handle, not to mention the arrogance should we win... *sigh*
It's be hilarious if some no-name team won 😀
So is any of you coming to Germany for the FIFA world cup? (And does anyone else think the logo looks like teletubbies on drugs?)

If their team is very strong, All teams playing in the world championships are very strong.
I believe the 8 teams I have named can win it. There are other teams who are strong teams, who can affect the outcome of the tournament significantly (Spain, Portugal, Sweden).
After that there are a few decent teams, who can maybe provide surprise or two, but will not feature in the final shake-up (Ukraine, USA, Mexico, Croatia, Switzerland, Poland, Serbia, Ecuador, Paraguay).
The rest are weak teams, who will not get out of the group stages. (African teams are a bit of an enigma- the teams who qualified seem much weaker than some of the others currently playing in the African Nations Cup.)

I think any team can win the title. Greece won the european championships, while they were at most a dangerous outsider. I bet you also expected that France would have gotten to the 1/8th finals easily in the world championships of 2002.
Originally posted by schakuhrYes, you can. The CONCAF has 2 decent teams, Mexico and USA. The others are poor. As the qualifying group allows 3 teams, plus one team to play off against a poor team from Asia (you CANNOT tell me Bahrain are a decent team!)

The CONCAF final qualification group is weaker than a European Qualifying group, and only the top team in those go through whilst the 2nd place teams play off.
Originally posted by welsharnieTell that to the FIFA. They seem to think different.

Originally posted by schakuhrI don't think they do, they just hold the view that having too many spots for europe is bad for world football, which I agree with. Allowing teams like Trinidad & Tobago and Togo in the World Cup helps improve the football there.
Tell that to the FIFA. They seem to think different.
The only problem with this, however, is that it means the weak nations from Asia and North and Central America get their chance of the World Stage, whereas teams like Romania, Buglaria, Austria, Scotland and so on (who would all qualify if in the same situation as a team from any other continent, barring South America), do not get such a chance, as they cannot qualify because of the sheer amount of good footballing nations in Europe.
Originally posted by Freddie2006I apologise for my complete lack of forward thinking...I should have thought before I started celebrating 3-1...because it's now 4-1 😛
In a thread about football I would just like to boast about my team Blackburn Rovers handing it to Manchester United 3-1 at the moment *proud*.
DaemonSin and Davefish will no doubt be celebrating in style 😀

I will avoid Berlin during that time at any cost.
Fwahaha they're also playing in K-town (=Kaiserslautern)... hehe there's soooo much to see there 😉
Will see how it affects this region... kinda between Frankfurt and Stuttgart, hopefully not too heavy 😉
Until England find a way to combat opposing teams playing with someone in the hole behind one or two strikers (Kaka for Brazil, Riquelme for Argentina etc) I think they're going to find it difficult to get their hands on the Jules Rimet trophy. While fantastic players individually, Gerrard and Lampard together often seem less than the sum of their parts, and using one of them to play more of a holding role to counteract the 'player-in-the-hole' takes a huge amount away from their game. That said, depending on which teams they come up against in the later rounds, or if Rooney/Gerrard/Lampard click and England play at a high tempo and get away with it, they've probably got as good a chance as they've had for a long time (since 1970 perhaps?).
Still, it's difficult to look beyond Brazil as winners.
