so, i'm employed. that means i have money. well-a bit of money. i need to save up for next year. but that is beside the point. it means that i can purchase some decent albums. now, out of the last 3 albums i bought, 2 have been mild wastes of money (i feel free-the best of cream, three cheers for revenge-my chemical romance, and a random "a perfect circle" album. i'll leave it up to you which ones i consider to be a waste of money, and which one i got for £3.97 and am immensely pleased with...). thus, i have becided to consult this forum for some ideas. i already have a few, but i'm not sure about all of them. i definatly want a bob dylan album and a beatles one, and no best of's...

my current "maybe"'s are, in no particular order,

Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables - dead kennedys

Damaged - black flag

sargent peppers lonely hearts club band - the beatles

Highway 61 revisited - Bob dylan

are you experienced - jimi hendrix

exile on main street - the rolling stones

nevermind - nirvana

rumours - fleetwood mac (get earlier?)

The joshua tree - U2

who's next - the who

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars - David Bowie

At Fillmore East - The Allman Brothers Band

Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley

After the Gold Rush - Neil Young

clap your hands say yeah - self titled

although i shan't be getting all of them as i am still a lowly, poor student. and i also want to buy a ukulele...any suggestions? any no-no's? any "you didn't put it in!"'s?

Dylan's best albums are 'Desire' and 'Blood on the Tracks', and 'Young Americans' is better if you must get something by Bowie.

Not a lot of originality in that list.

The joshua tree - U2
I'm not very familiar with the last one, but it's U2 so it'll be good.

BTW: The best of cream better have been the one you liked.

Yeah, Blood on the Tracks is the one to get. Speaking of which, I should go get it...

Aiyaiyai. Music tastes are so wildly different, it's impossible to know what to recommend. I mean, I could rattle off half a dozen albums that rock my musical world, and you might think they're a bunch of pathetic singer-songwriters who should stop whinging about their existential angst and get a job flipping burgers.

About the only one on your list I can comment on is U2. I've never quite understood the fuss. They have some great songs, but I've yet to hear a uniformly strong album. The first few tracks of The Joshua Tree are fantastic but then to me it trails off really badly.

well-no-but my current collection is quite random. i'm trying to simply expand it by buying classic albums 🙂

and i know what you mean about U2. i used to listen to their best of many moons ago and never quite got into them. so i'm gonna try again...

You might like Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds' The Boatman's Call. Appeals to the Christian in me.

Damaged and Exile are the two albums on that list I would buy, if I were you. The other albums are good, but like Palynka said, where's the originality? Sure, Sgt. Pepper's is great but who hasn't heard it sixty trillion times?
