What about REM - Automatic for the people, U2 - The Unforgettable Fire, Def Leppard - Hysteria, Bowie - Scary Monsters. Some of the best tunes on these albums were the ones that never made it into the public domain. Finally, I heard a song by The Arcade Fire on TV a while ago and immediately bought their album - Funeral. This really is something different, even if half the lyrics are in French.
