Allison Krauss and Union Station, The Outkast (how's that for schizophrenic taste?)😕
I'm currently listening to a playlist with Beethoven, Samuel Barber and Thomas Newman, with Metalicca (nothing else matters is one of their only really good songs in my opinion), Pearl Jam, Jimi Hendrix, Muse and a bit of Zepelin. 🙂

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of music too. I like just about anything that's not rubbish 😏
I'm always open to new experiences as far as music goes. Hate commercial pap, but I'll give almost anything else a try.
Current favourites are:
Pink Floyd (truly inspirational lyrics and Dave Gilmour on guitar. It doesn't get any better than that)
The Eels
Ben Folds
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Dire Straits
Lisa Fitzgibbon (an independnt artist I discovered by chance at Glasto '02)
Led Zeppelin
John Lee Hooker
There are many others, but if I go on much longer, I probably won't stop!
Originally posted by jimmyb270Well...everyone's definition of "rubbish" is quite different. 😀 I'm sure that most people would listen to 90% of the bands I listed above and immediately vomit. That being said, I'd just like to add a word about David Gilmour.

Pink Floyd (truly inspirational lyrics and Dave Gilmour on guitar. It doesn't get any better than that)
I'm a big fan of virtuoso musicianship. I just love listening to the masters play melodies (or rhythms if its the drummer) and also have the technical capability to let it rip when the song or song structure demands it. I've always been of the opinion that the more you know about your instrument, the better you are able to express yourself with it.
Gilmour just blows me away, and when I discovered Pink Floyd when I was thorteen, he turned my musical opinions inside out. Here's a guy who openly admits to being unable to play anything faster than a sixteenth note at a moderate rock tempo (85-110bpm) and yet he is able to construct some of the most gorgeous guitar melodies and solos that I've ever heard. He's really one of a kind, a virtuoso in the compositional sense, rather than the physical sense.
If you like Gilmour's soloing style, I would recommed that you check out the following giutar solos, as they are similar in attitude and approach. Format: Band: Song Title (guitarist) - Album Title
Testament: Return to Serenity (Alex Skolnik) - The Ritual
Dream Theater: Goodnight Kiss (John Petrucci) - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Dream Theater: Lines in the Sand (John Petrucci) - Falling into Infinity
Marillion: Kayleigh (Steve Rothery) - Misplaced Childhood
Marillion: Sugar Mice (Steve Rothery) - Clutching at Straws
Yes: Sound Chaser (Steve Howe) - Relayer
Rush: Bravado (Alex Lifeson) - Roll the Bones
Genesis: Firth of Fifth (Steve Hackett) - Selling England by the Pound
Steve Vai: For the Love of God (Steve Vai) - Passion and Warfare
Eric Johnson: Cliffs of Dover (Eric Johnson) - Ah Via Musicom
Joe Satriani: Flying in a Blue Dream (Joe Satriani) - Flying in a Blue Dream
Judas Priest: Dreamer Deceiver: (Glenn Tipton) - Sad Wings of Destiny
Those are just a few great solos, in the Gilmour vein (nothing harmonically complex or physically difficult), in my opinion. Check them out if you have a few moments. A couple of these (namely Skolnik, Satriani, Johnson, and Vai) are technically beyond Gilmour, but are nonetheless worthy of note.

Thanks Poison, I'll look into any of those that I can find. The only one I've heard already is Marillion's Kayleigh. It's okay, but a bit too cheesy 80's.
I just adore Kayleigh and the entire Misplaced Childhood album.
