There was a change to the profile page at some point that stopped the avatards script from adding the link. The gbaway script had a bug where the prompt for renaming a user was defaulting to the last user in the page unless a given user had already been renamed.
The message link works for me, can't find a bug there?
If your message link is broken then upgrade to this version.

I asked Russ at one stage to let the devs know when he changed the DOM, but he basically told me - and I'm paraphrasing here:
