which is the greatest comedy film, and the greatest comedian of the past hundred or so years?
EDIT: took out the "of all time" and replaced it with "film" and stuck "of the past 100 or so years" on the end of the question about comedians. as some people were being parnickitty...
I think one of the best standup comedians was Bill Hicks, with him there was no boundery, he didn't just cross the line, he took a dump on it and then crossed it.
Old comedians like charlie chaplin, marx bros etc were ground breaking and genius for their time but they just don't float my boat.
Best comedy film is a toughie.. Maybe some laurel and hardy film. Or dumb and dumber (i've a feeling i'll get shot down for saying that 😉 )

Comedy is very much an individual choice. I would go with the following:
Film - Life of Brian / Dr Strangelove (close, not sure which)
Comedian - Bill Bailey / Bill Hicks (for entirely different reasons)
Also worth mentioning Eddie Izzard, who is the funniest person ever not to insult someone, how he can be so funny without any form of malice is beyond me. And he does his routines in both French and English.

which is the .... greatest comedian of the past hundred or so years?
"Put the brake on, Min!" "It doesn't suit me, Henry!"
😀😀
With the advent of TV, the Goon Show died. They tried a few 'visuals', but it just didn't work.
Nevertheless, you can still get the goons on CD, a friend of mine has the whole set!
Please, someone give me some help! The show was "News Radio" and I think one of the greatest shows ever. Who was the guy from Saturday Night Live who's wife killed him?
I am racking my tiny little brain here trying to remember.
