I’ve a sister who, depending upon the cafe and whether they usually give 2 shots of coffee or not, requests the hot milk and coffee separate in a small jug. Then I’ve a friend who always demands a Very hot latte - which Starbucks say they can’t do - but it’s very hot tbh. Starbucks have very nice small coffee cups, Costa have large coffee cups like soup bowls 🫤
@Drewnogal saidWho in their right mind is ordering green tea at Costa? 🤪
Can’t remember if I’ve ever been to a Nero. Starbucks seems the preferred place for youngsters here who like the big range of fancy drinks? They’re so expensive and take forever to prepare so a longer wait for everyone. The cake range at Costa looks great but why they can’t serve green tea in a paper tea bag I do not know. Who in their right minds wants a drink with a piece of plastic mesh steeped in boiling water?
That's probably why I don't like Starbucks, other than the one at Belfast airport and a forgettable date (she picked the place) I can't remember the last time I was in a Starbucks. Nero is everywhere in Belfast, loads in London as well, surprised if you haven't been in one.
@Ghost-of-a-Duke saidJuan Valdes was the coffee chain of choice in Colombia, they did the same... I used to tell them Diego after the spelling and pronunciation fiascos with Trevor. Trébol? Google the translation. 🤦
I rarely go into Starbucks. Don't like how they insist on knowing your name.
The default name I give them is Jeremy.
@A-Unique-Nickname saidGreen tea is for when you’ve consumed an 800ml pot of coffee for breakfast then meeting a mate for a coffee by 11 🙂. Recall there’s a Nero in a nearby posh village and more in the city. I obviously need to venture into the city more often but I’m a skint pensioner recently.

Tbh I’ve cut my morning coffee down to 400mls, thanks to this thread, and drinking lots of hot water through the day as have a flu-ish virus this week which has helped lots.
@Drewnogal saidWell, you're Welsh, aren't you?
I give my surname, having spent my life spelling my christian name over the phone.
English speakers seem to have some difficulty with it. I know I would, as I usually try to sound out unknown words. Welsh seems designed to prevent that.
@Suzianne saidI acquired a Welsh surname through marriage but it’s always been the Polish part that’s caused me problems.

-Removed-That word spinster sounds so derogatory to me. I recall one brother teasing one sister about being ‘left on the shelf’ because she still wasn’t married at 25? These days there seem to be more concerns about the high proportion of young males who can’t seem to even get a date let alone a relationship. Young women are striving to get themselves a High Value Male, few of whom want a long term relationship and get more enjoyment out of playing the field with the most attractive women?
Internet dating seems to promote this.
-Removed-Interesting how times change eh? I recall getting a glimpse of my medical notes at what used to be called a Family Planning Centre where we all the young females went to get our contraceptive pill in the 70’s. The very first words read ‘This girl apparently does not have a steady boyfriend …. ‘. It made me feel so cheap 🫤
