You will need a pic to use that is accessable online. (Imageshack.com works for several) then under my home (top left icon) then my profile, you can place the URL of your avatar in the link provided.

Steal someone elses.

Right click on their Avatar and select properties to see where they hide it.

Image shack best, if no success, just google 'avatars' and pick
one you like, why not? It'll compress if it's not exact size.
No sweat! Just make sure you are putting the WHOLE URL in the appropriate field.

And if you do use
http://www.imageshack.us/
make sure you copy the url that says direct link next to it.
