My wife and I have never been to Germany and are considering a holiday there next year probably in early September.
Because we can get cheap flights from our local airport we are considering two options at the moment;
1. Flying to Amsterdam and driving to Dusseldorf and then where-ever
2. Flying to Prague and driving to Dresden or Nuremberg or Munich and then where-ever
Any information from those of you who know about these areas and which might be the better choice would be very welcome
Thanks
🙂

Fly to Stuttgart or Frankfurt. Rent a car or:
Fly to Amsterdam. Rent a car. Drive via the A2 (Utrecht towards Maastricht) but take the motorway to Venlo (about 100k's before Maastricht you'll get pointed in the right direction).
Then take the motorway (the spine of Germany, I believe it's 61) to Stuttgart - Karlsruhe - Stuttgart and drive straight into the Black Forest.
Good food and really, really beautiful scenery and villages.
Once you're down there, Munich and Nuremberg aren't too far away.
On the way down you'll even pass the new German formula 1 circuit.

Cologne is a great city, Bonn is nice. Haven't been anywhere else.

Munich is a great place, very beautiful and romantic..the people there are ever so friendly. If you go in September/October, the Oktoberfest will be on, it's great fun. Do visit the Black Forest, with all the autumnal colours on the trees, it really is a treat! I also recommend you go to Neuschwanstein castle, it's an amazing sight, especially in the autumn. The Bavarian villages are so picturesque and everywhere is so clean!
In Germany I found it almost impossible to find still water, for some reason, when you ask for water they always serve you sparkling. The food however was great.

I didn't know I had so much in common with R.J. Fischer!
🙂
EDIT: Pity I can't play chess like him!!
But, it comes with a price. The guy is crazy. To play like Fischer, you must be crazy like fischer.
I would post another Fischer quote here to make that point, but I've been told that Russ has been alerted that I've been spamming the forums by posting Bobby Fischer quotes on a chess site.
