@drewnogal saidI found this recipe for blackberry liqueur
Had anyone here tried this? I’m due a nice crop of apples and blackberries which I usually turn into jam but wondered about putting some in a Rumtopf / rum pot with vodka?
5 dl vodka
3 dl sugar
7 dl blackberries
3 clove
1,5 cinnamon sticks
@drewnogal saidMany years ago I tried brewing some beer and it was a disaster. I know a lot of people derive satisfaction from the hobby, several here I think. Robbie Carrobie was a home brewer I seem to remember.

What unit of measurement is DL?
Measurement conversion tables
1 liter (l) = 10 deciliters
1 deciliter (dl) = 10 centiliters
1 centiliter (cl) = 10 milliliters (ml)
@divegeester saidBeer sounds even more complicated than wine.

@ponderable saidEr thanks .....so 300 ml / milliliters sugar equals 250 grams?

so half a litre of wodky, 300 ml of suggar 700 ml of Blackberries
It’s all very confusing š
@drewnogal saidWith a sugar desity of 1.6 g/ml I calculate 480 g. (Sugar is desner than water, thus it sinks to the bottom š )

@drewnogal saidover the years I have made beer& lager, wine & sherry they were all ok but my wife & daughter prefered the sherry, my daughter took 2 bottles to uni in freshers week as an icebreaker, I got my arm put up my back to make more, PS I have to admit they were all from kits bought mainly from boots.
Beer sounds even more complicated than wine.

My dad made a banana wine years ago. When they sold their home, as they were packing up for the move, they found a bottle of it. It was about 10 years old by then. When my mum went to Scotland for a visit dad brought it over to our place and 6 of us drank it. It was very tasty. When we had finished our diner and we stood up...well. It must have had some serious alcohol by volume. I once tried making a red wine. I followed the instructions and by the time it was supposed to be ready it was only good as a chips poured over. I tried again, not strictly following the instructions and it turned out, slightly better.

There is a how to guide on the BBC food section.
@badradger saidI think these berries have in common that before using them (gin, liqueur) they should be frozen, either in a freezer or in nature (a frosty night). A recipe will say that.

@torunn saidyes your right freeze for 48 hr it ruptures the inside of the berry allowing more juice to flow.they do this with some grapes in germany then make a nice dessert wine.
