This is the message log from a game I just started. My opponent was white (jobsworth). For those of you who are Scots or familiar with Scots, the things I said were meant in jest, especially since he had stated he liked my sense of humor. I resigned the game. I of course, being the cry baby I am, got my feelings hurt and went and hid in the corner. So who was rude here, jobsworth or me?

1 White Love your profile (great sense of humour), good luck in our game
1 Black ta, jock. geritupyae :-) gl as well
2 White You are misinformed..a jock is an uncultured asshole. I am a scotsman (no offense taken).
2 Black I am sorry, jobby. I meant no offense. I love the scots.
3 White 'jobby'? You have obviously been taking guidance from a moron. Just keep your yap shut and play (if you can).

🙁🙁🙁🙁 I resigned at this point.

what does "geritupyae" mean?

i suspect offense was taken at the terms "jock" and "jobby", resulting in a counteroffensive with the term "moron", and the phrase "Just keep your yap shut and play (if you can)."

i would not hire jobsworth as a diplomat.
i would also suggest you look up the term "jock", some guys call each other that in a friendly way, but mostly it is derogatory.

'jobby' has the unfortunate meaning of excrement.
Alas we appear to have a case of language usually
reserved for good friends being used by strangers and
thus creating offense all round.

Jock can be used as a derogative term.
Jobby, although I see you are probably using it (as his name is Jobsworth) as a friendly form of his name, means "shit" in Scottish.

So, where you are basically saying: "I am sorry Jobsworth, I meant no offense." He probably read: "I am sorry you shit. I meant no offense."

God, I love miscommunications 🙂

Just PM him and explain, I'm sure he'll see the funny side of it.

there are many terms to which an insult can be used, limey, pic, leek eater, nigger, wasp, bitch, pig, and im sure peple out there use evan less terms to annoy others, but remember they show themselves up for what they are. A goog example was "alf garnet " not pc ,but very, very funny, as a lasting memory of a bigot using bigitory terms, shoing the bigot up for what they are. ps hope no one has taken offence not my intention.

unfortuanately here i sympathise with the guy playing white, you seem to be the rude one. I spent 4 months sailing with a scottish that hated when people would refer to him as 'jock' He probably has been called alot of them names in his life time and does not like it. would you like it if he was playing a game with you and just came out with: how ya doing sheepsha*ger as that is a derogarative name for people in wales....i don't think you would. What you may think is a joke may not be seen as a joke to the person who is offended as no where did you say "sorry i offended you i was just joking" you instead came out with another derrogaritive term.

i am affraid i am from down south and have a strong yorkshire accent so i don't, i just live in s.shields thats all for my job. makums are called makum due to in history of ship building the name originates from 'make-them....hence makums now', smogies is a term from middlesborough due to all the chimney stacks that use to polute the environment surrounding forcing a think smog on the evening about 10yrs ago....they have since been cleaned, hence'smoggies' because they live around these stacks, bar codes due to the newcastle football team colours and what people look like in the kit, hence 'bar codes' for the image that people see, 'monkey hangers' originates from the 18th century (i think this is the correct century or maybe the 19th) from hartlepool due to them hanging a monkey as they thought it was a spy.dunno about smug monsters.
However, these are all names but are not of offensive origin....though to call a scotsman a jock or a jobby is .....as you are effectively calling him in scottish a tight fisted piece of shit and that i would not be happy about, would you?
i get called french because i am from down south...but so what, that is not offensive, but if someone called me a tight fisted piece of shit in my own dialect as a joke i would not find it too funny either and especially if it was the first time i had ever talked to them
