So does fritz or shredder have an analysis function that would show how many moves it would have preferred? I guess you just input the complete game and let fritz or whatever analyze the game and see how many moves it agrees with.
You must find where "book / Data" ends. You might be wise to use Chess Lab to be sure you are out of data... Sometimes Chesslab.com has more info than your engine might.
You should be able to click on any move that is out of book, and if your engine is ON it will show you a line. Hit the Plus button over the line... and you can add an extra 3 or so lines... that way you know choice one, two, and three.
I don't have shredder, so not sure how that one works. If your still stuck, I'll need to re-install my fritz to help you. My computer pooped last month and I have yet to put it back.
Many people use Chess Master wrong. They run the game and CM says it agrees 100 or 90 percent with all moves. That just means it doesn't mind the moves, but that is NOT the moves CM would have done. Don't fall for that crap.

1) A cheat might cut and paste a FEN position or PGN game into an engine interface like Chessbase at each move. That might take 10-15 seconds seconds per move. Alternatively, a cheat might store their games in a database (like Chessbase) and load/update it on each move. That might be somewhat quicker.
