You gotta be kidding! The National League is the oldest league. The NL doesn't need designated hitters because their pitchers are expected to produce aside from just pitching. The AL is a league with crutches (designated hitter)......plus the yankees are gay, and so is the Bronx. Go Mets!!

I'm not saying that people can't enjoy the brand of minor league ball that the NL produces; after all, I go and enjoy T-ball games of my various nephews. But the NL can hardly be considered a "major league" when it lacks the most successful sports franchise in the history of the world, the New York Yankees, can it?
You're kidding, right? The American League is so devoid of strategy, tactics, or nuance, that even Charlie Manuel managed to survive in that league. Why in the hell does a league need a designated hitter anyway, other than to allow over-the-hill first basemen to extend a career that by any rights should be over?

The Yankees' income derives from their loving and loyal fans, 'tis a pity that they have more of them then the Toronto Blue Jays.

Originally posted by sasquatch672Whatever my feelings about the DH, it is a simple fact that only one league can be considered the "major" league in baseball and that is the one that is ruled by the New York Yankees. Torre's actually a Grade A moron which you would know if you regularly watched Yankee games. I believe it is a requirement for competitive balance that we are forced to retain him. Still, it's better than not allowing us to use gloves which would be an approximately equal impediment to having a manager of Torre's sub cretin understanding of baseball principles; warm somebody up BEFORE there's 3 men on base!
Only one league can have the most successful franchise in its history, right? Come on. American League managers can't double switch, don't know when to put on a shift, and on and on. That's why Torre's been so good - he manages the Yankees like an NL team. I'll concede that the AL gets all the pub right now, and they're more colorful - yes, it does L produces more baseball-like baseball. All because of the DH. You know that. Come on.
Since I'm watching a baseball game and not trying to "nail" the players, I prefer them to be "unapproachable, unlovable, devoid of personality or character". I abhor the "Oprahization" of everything so that it is now considered mandatory that we know every minor character flaw of anybody in the public eye. The media used to consider it a civic virtue not to tell 8-year olds that Babe Ruth was a whoring, violent drunk; I'm sure in these "enlightened" times he'd be run out of baseball for illegal drug use.
