The thing is how many people actually read the TOS?

A little reminder now and then as to what is unacceptable just helps to focus the mind.

Cheats, however, will just say yes and carry on regardless, so as you say a fairly pointless exercise.
I think they did it as a response to all the forum chatter about cheating. This way everybody is made aware of it (again), and all of us who follow the forum know that something is happening instead of just silence from Russ. The reminder was then followed by a new post about a new game mod crew, and a decision on the whole 'accused high rank player' situation.

Surely my rating would suggest that I do not use an engine?
your rating may do, but in my experience, the inland revenue have a lot to answer for... ;-)

We prefer to cheat people out of their money, which clearly is not as morally abhorent as cheating at chess!

Was there a "Yes, I do use chess engines" option? That would have made it more entertaining

I found a quote from Kasparov on a web page recently, it is now on my profile. Not sure I trust the quote, and now can't remember / find the page as I put it in a search engine, but regardless, it does neatly sum up why great men and great computers will never be the same.
