I find myself on these forums trying to smite Christians, argue with teenagers and make myself laugh for one reason mainly - I hate my job. I am such a desk jockey. I cannot wait to cast off the shackles of the civil service and do something FUN or INTERESTING at work.
So I'm here reading this hydrogeology study of a Northern Ontario landfill and I think to myself, I wonder what's going on at RHP. Then I open it up and sit here clicking away for hours. I love this site but I hate it too. It gives me an alternative to having my brain melt from boredom. I love my paycheck though, and that's what keeps me here.
Anyone else suffer from this affliction? Please provide moral support to someone who dearly needs it.
This Thursday I have an interview with a global company that performs risk assessment on large chemical factories. I would love to have this job although the competition will be stiff. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
I admire you, dar. You're one of millions in this country who work these jobs and do what you must to receive your paycheck and continue living your life. I have been struggling terribly with this concept and I cannot picture myself (I'm only 18, btw) being able to work these "desk jobs" and live a normal life. I won a writing contest sponsored by Disney when I was eleven and for years was trying to be a writer, but I have now devoted my life entirely to being a filmmaker/screenwriter and I have worked my arse off at this for almost four years now, watching every movie I can and reading as many books as I can, searching for inspiration. If I fail and end up working a normal job I feel I may just go suicidal, because I am weak this way. You're a strong person to be able to hold a normal job and not completely lose it. And good luck with your interview, I hope you get the job and find a happier place for yourself.

the grass is always greener on the other side.
i also did a manual job prior to my current one, i hate/d both jobs
i truly believe that rather than hate jobs for what they are I get tired of doing the same thing day in day out, whether it be manual or desk.
but i totally sympathise. sitting at a desk in a suit when its hot and sunny outside (not that its often hot and sunny where i am but relatively speaking) thats the worst to me. i just want to be outside and free.

My advice - stick at it, enjoy your pay whilst you're young, and before you know it you'll be taking long haul business class holiday flights and enjoying your socks off...

I've had to do so many condola jobs I wouldn't know where to begin whining. Here's my top 5 worst jobs I've had to do:
5. Clean tables while bombs were dropping on my head
Basically pretty scary. No pay. I did it voluntarily. Lots of vodka though, so it wasn't all bad.
4. Measuring land variations... in an open sewer
This lasted one week. Thank god. I didn't even know open sewers existed in Britain.
3. Garbage disposal Rotterdam (vacuming on top of the furnaces)
The furnaces were so hot you had to wear special shoes (or your soles would melt) and special suits. The smell was horrendous.
2. Clean tanks where potatoes are cleaned in before they're made into chips.
Luckily this only lasted 30 minutes. There was one large container thing and I had a high powered water spout. I sprayed in, the water cascaded around and swooshed back out with all the potato crap...all over me. And I had a hang-over. I puked and was sent home.
Chip factories stink. It's unbelievable.
1. Fibre glass (rock wool) factory
On the production line. Handling large pieces of smelly (fibre glass or rock wool smells when there's a lot of it around) stuff and itching like hell. All day, every day, during 12 hour shifts.
I always have sympathy for people who have jobs they dislike. Especially if they don't pay well.

Until you work a 10 pm - 6 am shift at a gas station in a bad part of Vancouver... where the hookers come in for smokes at 2 am and drip on the floor (yep, you heard me... drip... little puddles on the floor of the station) ... and the highlight of your night is cleaning the heroin needles out of the public restroom.
