The U.S. is capable of stepping out of their comfort zone and competing around the world at soccer.
Why can't the rest of the world compete at American Football?
Sissies?

Baseball, Soccer, Hockey, Ice Skating, Skiing, Curling, Biking, and now Basketball has failed, why not throw NFL out there?

Baseball - USA gets WHOOPED by Japan.
Golf - USA gets WHOOPED by Europe.
Tennis - USA gets WHOOPED by Switzerland.
Ice Hockey - USA gets WHOOPED by Canada.
BASKETBALL - USA GETS WHOOPED BY GREECE!! (And you Portugal 😠)
American Football? Just imagine the WHOOPING they'd get if they let teams play them! 😵 It's obvious the USA are the chickens.
Originally posted by mlpriorI actually played for about 7 years, for 3 different teams (Stirling Uni, Nottingham UNi, and Kent). The problem in the UK is that we are not very good at it so there is no way we can compete. Generally it is a game people take up as aduilts i.e. I was 19 when I first played the game. Due to the technical nature of the sport you can never really catch up on the skills and understanding of an American kid who has played all their life. Also it is an expensive sport with all the pads and stuff - generally that is a barrier to entry for most people when there are alternatives such as Rugby.

To highlight this, when I was at uni MIT sent a rugby team over to play, the team thought they did really good as they had got in some "good hits" and were well happy. They actually got thrashed because as much as they could compete physically, technically they could not handle a kicking game attacking the corners.

While we are (occasionally) talking about rugby, here's hoping for a good game between the All Blacks and the Springboks in 5 hours!
The ABs should win but the Springboks showed in the final 10 or so minutes last week that with an attacking first five like Pretorious (sp.?) and a willingness to throw the ball around, they can be dangerous.
Macho posturing aside - ala 'my' sport is better/harder than 'your' sport - all sports obviously produce fantastic sportsmen for the sport they play, and as someone mentioned above, playing the sport as a kid will be crucial to them developing an awareness for the sport unlikely to be matched by an adult taking up the same sport.
