Immortality.
Probably belonged in the Spirituality Forum! 😉
You just know that God is going to come into the conversation.
again, it was GB who insisted on foisting his religious views onto the thread, as he has done with so many others.

From thread name alone it should be there. Immortality is talking about living forever. An immortal being...so yea I would say God is going to enter the conversation.
Originally posted by Very Rustyok, i'll try again. think about the pill i mentioned in my last post. you take the pill, and you don't age any further, and your health is maintained indefinitely. you can still be killed if you get hit by a car or jump off a cliff, and you can be murdered, but barring those things, your body will not wear out and you won't die of old age.

you can see, i hope, that we don't have to introduce God into the conversation to talk about such a scenario.
so the question is: would you take the pill? and do you expect that you would ever get sick of this life and want to end it?
edit: i guess you can read 'immortal' as being unable to die under any circumstances, but the OP seems to be more about 'would you continue to live if you could?'

Now it all becomes crystal clear! 😉
The pill thing is kind'a far fetched in my opinion. ( Science fiction )
Perhaps you would like to see the thread in the Science Forum then?
Anyways, time for me to get my butt to bed. Good Night All, Stay safe!

2. it doesn't matter for the purposes of the thought experiment if the pill actually exists or not: the question is 'if the pill existed...'
3. the pill in question might not be science fiction for too much longer. there's a lot of research going on into arresting the ageing process, which has a lot to do with imperfect copying of DNA in cell regeneration - basically, biological issues that, in principle, can be solved. ageing is a disease we all have, but it need not be an incurable disease.

no, it's already a fait accompli (but He's patient); academic logic courses and appreciation of conditional possibilities duly noted.

He is; He has and will continue to do so;
if He is/has/will continue to thwart the devil, then explain the Holocaust and other evil. doesn't seem like much thwarting is going on, does it?
no, it's already a fait accompli (but He's patient);
if God is omnipotent, then He could choose to thwart the devil now, and in fact not allow evil ever. so again, either He chooses not to do so (and to allow evil), or he can't thwart the devil now. why not thwart evil now and prevent things like the Holocaust, rather than allow such things only to thwart evil later?
again, this kind of thing belongs in Spirituality, Spanky.

edit: exactly what part of your 'frame of reference' am i not accommodating? normally i would just say that talk of God and the devil is off with the fairies, but my replies have accommodated this framework of yours. the problem is that your frame of reference includes insoluble logical inconsistencies.

Simply perfect. No, a vibrant life can not be distilled down to this. Maybe some let it happen. They get tired and quit living. Just existing. My step father is in his late 80's. still vibrant, still works on his Model A's and T's. He keeps his mind and body active. He will also sit down and drink a beer and shoot a game of pool with you.
I'd like to be like him.
