Now, far be it for me to be one to quote the bible, but sometimes a little ancient wisdom can be of use.
Have you ever heard the quote: "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth?"
Right, that's the first part of what someone was saying.
The second part, which is also famous, but nearly never brought into connection with the second part is: "Turn the other cheek."
What this person was referring to is that the only way to actually get out of a vicious circle or spiral of aggression, slagging or tit-for-tat is to take a step back, open your arms and take a blow.
And then forgive.
It is now time, 100's of posts on, for this issue to be buried and for everyone to take a deep breath and put it behind them.
Obviously not all can be forgiven or forgotten, but sometimes it's healthy to subdue things for better places and better times.
If neccesairy, use the PM system.
Now it is time to close this thread and get on with our lives.

There is probably always that ebb and flow.
And, I agree with you that the argument is flawed and irrational, but it is an RHP standard. Much like: "My childish posts are entirely normal. Yours on the other hand show deep-seated psychological problems." (The quotes here are for effect, please don't go looking for the quote or presume that I ascribe it to anyone in particular. It is meant as a general comment.)
I'll take the humour comment as a compliment however it was intended.
ALSO: While we're on the topic. My favorite was seeing 5-10 people come into the Happy Thread and post about a dozen times each about how boring it was and how it should be removed. ROFLMAO
