I am just in hopes that this signifies the beginning of a new era of higher consciousness. Americans looked at the content of Obama rather than his skin color. It is high time we had someone other than an old, rich, white guy leading this country.

Maybe that's why about 98% of African Americans voted for him!

His speech certainly seemed promising on this point.

It is my sincere hope that President Obama will polarize Americans and be able to begin the task of rebuilding and establishing again America's reputation as a mighty, progressive, benign, and peaceable nation. I think he is the man to accomplish that daunting task.

Maybe he wants to bring back the electric chair. Or did it ever leave?

It's still a great dance, in my opinion.

It's an unenviable time for any leader to step in. And a time when the American people have opted for a leader of hope and vision. Barack Obama still has a long way to go before he proves he has the right stuff, but so far I like what I see.

And what I see is a person who brings inspiration, who seeks to unite rather than divide. For me, some of the key attributes of a good leader are that he is a good listener, he provides vision and direction, is not scared of failure, unites rather than divides, and he inspires others.

Leaders set the agenda, define the debate and show the way forward – in short, they lead. Also, they bring hope in dark times.

He's also a very, very good communicator and orator. Would that other leaders were so inspirational.

But I really wish they'd get away from the God stuff. You almost expect an angel to come down and anoint him.

Bush polarized. Obama aims to unite.

The word has several meanings, but my meaning in this post was to cause them to have clear perception and understanding of the difference between two opposing directions, and an apprecation of why one one of them might make more sense than another when it comes to choosing the best way forward.

obviously a poor choice of word because of ambiguity. I certainly dont advocate a Dis-united States of America.

This is truly a monumental day in the history of the US. Roughly 50 years after the start of the civil rights movement, an African-American male is our President; in 1958 blacks had to go to the back of the bus, couldn't vote, or use the same public ...[text shortened]... tion, that we are capable of movement and change. That is the real hope and promise of America.
You tell 'em Doc!

This is the hope.

The question is can he rebuild within eight years what Bush has torn asunder in eight years?

It is indeed a daunting task, but it is possible. But he cannot do it alone. He can point the way, but it is up to all of us to pull our weight and help each other to get the job done. America still has a long way to go.
