Hmmm, while I think technically, you used it right, I wouldn't use it about DSL lines cos they're not very threatening are they? Maybe earthquakes, lions, heights, fire, spiders, etc. I reckon it should be related to showing a disdain for dangerous things.

Although doing a google search for "I laugh in the face of" returned people laughing in the face of volumizing shampoo and lust, so there you go.
