I think that somehow this year one is even more conscious than usual of things of the First World War. No question these days of sides. We're all too aware of the terrible losses and of the young lives of all nations involved that were cut down in their youth.
In my case, my father was in one of the most notorious of the battles, I won't name it here, and he was the only one of his friends who came back. The same will be true for all nations involved.
Although a long time ago, it's a time that brings many memories because of the effects it had in the participants and their families, down through the generations. So, feelings run high.
