I certainly didn't intend to say weakness/humiliation is a rarity. I see it just about every day. Usually in Type A's.

"There is only one way where you'll never be caught in contradiction. That is to not even ...[text shortened]... remain open to other possibilities. Lose the need to always be right. That's a weakness.
It's a weakness losing the need to always be right, or is it right to be weak enough to lose the need?

Do tell, what have you learned in this posh environment over the past few years?
I learned a lot about certain philosophical currents that I didn't know much about before. Even when I had similar ideas, I learned how to frame them properly and to improve their consistency. Improving the consistency of my own opinions (plugging holes I didn't know where there) is something I also consider as learning.

An example is Moral Non-Cognitivism:
http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/moral-cognitivism/
which helped me move from describing myself uncomfortably as a sort of moral relativist to something I'm comfortable with.

There are more.

Oh, shit! I'm so embarrassed now. You really paid attention these four or five years, didn't you?
I mostly just hung around to pass time. Things worthwhile have been written here, and I remember
receiving education from time to time, but most of it's gone come next day.

😳

You haven't forgotten them. What you've forgotten was what your opinion was before!

So it's a "weakness" (now maybe it's more clear why I don't like to state it like that) that everybody has and can never be eliminated. Preparation, however, can minimize the amount of times when you find out about your own contradictions.

I agree, though, that how you react to ...[text shortened]... others do to you (and not how you react to other's jibes) and this is where we disagreed.

I'm not saying that everyone's inability to know everything is the weakness, I'm saying that getting upset about not being right is the weakness. Not everyone gets upset when they're wrong, so not everyone feels humiliated by being wrong.

Let's look at another example...Many people are insecure about their physique. Let's imagine getting thrown naked into the street, by a sadistic lover who is trying to humiliate you. The only way to avoid humiliation, is to squash the insecurity.

You can also do something about your physique. If you're a fat, lazy glutton then you should do something about it because it's unhealthy.

People should strive to correct their faults. If their defense against jibes is ignoring them, they might be missing out on something as some have valid points. Ignoring is a quick fix, but it's a poor solution sometimes. If you get beaten down in this forums because you're incoherent, then you should take a hint.

Don't we all change over time? I can't say this place changed me too much, but then again, maybe it did?

It just hit me! One thing that I definitely picked up here is my culinary opinions. I was not a vegan
before, I have no friends whom enjoy the delights of a nicely prepared vegan meal, but here I am
now: pure vegan. Why? Because of that horrendous documentary that [who I can't remember
now] posted, where among other things chickens and hens were stacked so tightly together they
could barely move, and dolphins were captured by the most insidious means (wounding one,
knowing that the rest will stick around to try and protect it, and then just collect them all). That
really got to me so much that I decided to become a vegan. No way am I ever going to be
associated with the barbaric practice of the meat industry again. No way!

That's one thing I picked up here for sure. But I'm still far from a capitalist and I still think... OH!
Another thing! When I first got here I was totally unsympathetic toward religious beliefs, but slowly
my curiosity grew as the time passed and I indulged myself in the Spirit-duality forum. Still far
from a religious believer, but very much interested in the psychological and cultural effects that
religion's always had, and still has today. I've learned tons about various religions since I got here.

I guess it hasn't been a total waste of time after all. I'm still a sex crazed asshole though, no
matter how many times I'm moderated. (Oooh, now that sounds nasty! Being moderated.)

Arby posted it. I watched too, and have been off land-mammals for just over a year and a half. I think I smell like cabbage now.

Man, that is a life changing example! How much more can you ask from a forum?!

LOL! You'd be surprised how little it has changed my life though. Yeah, I can't eat out much any more
(the scarcity of vegan restaurants in Stockholm is embarrassing), and my friends keep hassling me
about it, but other than that: same old. I eat pretty much the same food as before, I've just replaced
meat and dairy products from the animal kingdom with their plant life equivalents (and supplements
for D and B12).

SJ saw it about a year after I did. I think it was re-posted. Can't remember who posted first and
second, but a guess would be: aiko followed by arby? Just taking a wild guess here, of course. I
could be wrong, in which case I'd have to kill you all for seeing this. I just can't live with the
humiliation of being wrong, but if no one's alive to tell...

There it is:
