Other than it being terrible, the whole point of the movie is to give you the willies and make you squirm. It does that with brutal efficiency.

The book is MUCH better than the movie. The only redeeming feature of the movie is that Tim Curry is amazing in almost anything he does. He did well to scare plenty of little kids and some adults as Pennywise, the Dancing Clown.

Since most of the movie was shot in the Czech Republic, it's not that unrealistic.
