I shall never grow old as long as I can teach piano to young children. In the past 6 days I have had two of them bring a smile to my face. It is better than tearing my hair out in frustration....though that might have been my first reaction in the past. A week ago today a fairly new student informed his mother that I had told him to come at 6 p.m. instead of his usual time of 5:30. When he had not shown up by 5:37, I phoned his mom...a bank manager. She told me that I had written a note in his assignment book saying that he was to come at 6:00. Well, anything is possible...including the occasional "Senior Moment"...so I was blaming myself for having made a bad error somewhere. When he arrived, I asked to see the note. It read, "to be played in the G position". He saw the G and it came through as a 6. I posted this somewhere, but not sure if it was in this forum or not, so wanted to repeat it while adding another blooper by a little girl last night. My flashcards were showing her different symbols in dynamics. The letter P was shown which is short for "piano" ...meaning to play softly. She paused, so I urged her to tell me what P stood for. She screwed up her face, tipped her head on one side, and coyly smiled up at me. "Pizza"? I can explain her confusion to you. I have always informed my students that the word MEZZO is pronounced like PIZZA. The first Z has a T sound. That word Pizza was what she remembered! Isn't that priceless? 😀

I taught my then 4 year old nephew scholar's mate, set up a game against his mum who had no idea. 4 moves, game over - priceless. Indeed kids are great.

I like W.C. Fields response to the question, "How do you like kids Mr. Fields?" His response was, "Fried".

Somebody stated that they love children, but they could not eat a whole one.
