I'm leaving after my current games have finished. No big deal, I'm just fed up with entering rated tournaments to find too many high ranking players there because they have been afk for a while and their rating has dropped well below their real ranking.

Anyone know of a chess site where more care is taken over who is allowed to enter tournaments? I just want a level playing field (or chessboard). 🙂

Well this site is stricter than some. I played at Chessworld a few years back, and they used current rating as the entry criterion rather than highest rating in X days. As a result you could get someone rated 2200 playing an under 1400 tournament.

Yeah I know how you feel. Obviously there has to be some leeway because of peoples changing ratings, but I am in a tournament where the maximum is 1325 and there is a 1500 player in there.

Still though, when I entered my rating was hovering about 1300 but now I am on 1389.

There's one chess site that moves you up to the next band in tournaments if you are higher after the end of the first round, not much help if he knocked you out though; but it does seem to prevent some abuse.

Nearly half the players entered in the tourney finished with a rating outside the band.

Are you sure you're not leaving because of the jerks in the forum?

Indeed, it is. Strangley enough, the tourney victory is not listed in his profile.
It's still ongoing.......🙂

Klaus Behrmann is in this tourney too - check out his profile.

However, both these guys entered when they were p1200. A loop hole in the current tournament entry system - you can't enter banded tourneys when you have a provisional rating, except p1200 (before you finish 5 games)

Russ is gonna sort this system out - there's a thread in the General forum looking for suggestions for changing the system. Why don't you post up your ideas for improving it?

There was a thread in the tournement forum from around Feb, talking about this very tournie.

A few players PM Klaus to re4quest that he withdraw from the tournie and he, to his credit duly did.

This guy is adamant that he has gone from a novice to a 1850ish rating in the last 9 months. ( Wish i could improve that quickly)

🙂

As for ideas, i'll have to have a think about it, but i'm sure Russ will close all the obvious loopholes soon
