Dispensation of Israel was folded into and fulfilled by the Dispensation of Christ's First Advent (Hypostatic Union), which made possible the

Dispensation of The Church (in both its New Testament pre-canon and post canon phases). God deals with Israel and the Gentiles separately.

My thoughts exactly! Thanks for saying it for me. Empty rituals seem to be practiced by a few people with empty hearts.

what more should I give up? Chess is my only other vice๐Ÿ˜›

I find lent a great opportunity to gain perspective. The idea isn't just about giving something up, but with replacing it with something of spiritual value. One year our family gave up all but an hour a day (if memory serves me) of TV. So what do you do with that new found time? Pray, read the bible, do charitble acts, take a nap, read a good book, learn a new language. All of which will give you new insight into the nature of humankind or yourself.
Lent is about preperation and repentance as we wait for Easter. Everyone does it differently, there is no right or wrong, only subjective reality.
