from wiki:
"The forty days represent the time Jesus spent in the desert, where according to the Bible he endured temptation by Satan.[2]"
Just because it was hot in the desert doesnt mean he's been tempted by satan, it just means jesus was a pussey🙁
"Different churches calculate the forty days differently."
Eh? so for some churches it lasts longer or ...[text shortened]... stianity...But u must at least admit that muslims are way tougher considered the fasting!

Periodic fasting may confer certain health benefits, otherwise it's devoid of spiritual significance. Strictly a man-made religious ritual.
16 "And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face...
(Note Jesus says "when" not "if". The fact that the Christ offers instructions on how to properly perform an activity is spiritually significant, imho.)
Mark 2:18-20
18 Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting; and people came and said to him, "Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?" 19Jesus said to them, "The wedding guests cannot fast while the bridegroom is with them, can they? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. 20 The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day.
(Followers of both the Christ and the Baptizer seemed to practice fasting, I presume on instructions from their leader.)
Exodus 34:28
28 Moses was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant--the Ten Commandments.
(Moses thought fasting before one of the most spiritually significant moments in his life was good and/or required.)
Luke 4:1-13
1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, 2where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing at all during those days, and when they were over, he was famished.
(As did the Christ)
So let me get this straight. The whole 40 days thing came about because Jebus spent 40 days in a desert without food and claimed he was being tempted by a devil. And that mohammed fella spent a while in the desert as well according to their peice of fiction and came back claiming he had been contacted by Al someoneorother.
I think there's a lesson here for all of us.
DON'T GO TO THE DESERT WITHOUT A 4x4 STOCKED WITH FOOD AND WATER. Maybe take a satellite phone too.
