For the 10 minutes this stays on page one of this forum, I've been keeping my pimphand strong on the alley...back to back 700 series two weeks in a row...Phlabbit and Angie will understand 🙂
I actually bowled a 278 two weeks in a row...the 300 game is like the white whale always elusive.
I am ready for the "who gives a *&(*^^*" about bowling comments 😀

Originally posted by Joe FistIs it an American bastardization of a good English game (like they did to rugby, cricket, etc)?

Oh, yes, I seem to remember.
Are you talking about "Skittles"?
Originally posted by Joe FistIt's quite simple really, you stand 9 "Skittles" (they look a bit like beer bottles but they're a bit bigger and made of wood) at one end of an alley, and try to knock them down by rolling 3 wooden balls in their general direction. If you knock all the skittles down with less than three balls, you get to stand them all up again and roll the remaining balls. Then your opponents try to do the same.
The candy? No I never heard of Skittles, the game.
The game is now dying out in most places, because pubs want to fill the spaces with tables, slot machines, etc.
Table skittles is a similar game on a much smaller scale, and the main difference with this game is that there is only one ball and it is connected to a long chain suspended from a pole, and the ball is swung towards the skittles.

Ah. Well for all intensive purposes yep, that's bowling here in the States. Skittles sounds a little easier though.
1. The Alley / Lane is perfectly flat.
2. The balls are perfectly round.
3. The pins are consistently placed.
Skittles however:
1. The Alley / Lane can be sloping with many dents along the way.
2. The balls are oftern oval (ish) with many chips and dents etc so they sometimes bounce and swerve without notice.
3. The pins are re stacked by hand for about $5 per hour by a spotty teenager who doesn't care about the game.
Despite this skittles makes a far more interesting game.
