In the context of a rapidly expanding wealthy middle class here in Indonesia, I have come across a few whose life philosophy approximates to the infamous "See this watch? This watch cost more than your car. That's who I am."

My life philosophy is to ..love many, trust few, but always paddle your own canoe .
