If there is meetuppery, Noodles, you should renew your passport so we can chill with a cellist to make Phlabby jealous.

My ID card is enough. (well, for me, obviously!)
Originally posted by PalynkaI wouldn't need a passport if I had an ID card. But I can't renew my ID card because I am not living in Germany. And a passport is more useful anyway, I'd still need it if I wanted to travel outside Europe.

Originally posted by PalynkaWhat sort of airlines are you flying on? All international travel requires a passport. I have never crossed a border without having to show a passport.

Originally posted by PalynkaI usually use my bank card (which doesn't say anything about my citizenship, but has my Norwegian 'person number' on it) if I need to identify myself. That's enough in Norway, but not if I want to travel to Germany.

Originally posted by st00p1dfac3Look, first of all, you don't require a passport to travel around the EU. Secondly, as a Portuguese, I also don't need a passport to enter England and therefore I don't need a passport to travel there by plane, just valid identification. I assume its the same for other Schengen EU members, that's why I asked Nordlys. Last, but not least, I was asking about documents needed to live in Norway, not those needed in border checks.
How are border checks irrelevant when Nordlys is talking about travelling to England?
So I don't know what airlines you're travelling on but I assume that you use your passport as your default ID, which doesn't mean it's the only ID that can be used.
Originally posted by st00p1dfac3Actually I have, several times. Norway has signed the Schengen Agreement, so theoretically a passport isn't required to cross the border to another Schengen country. But if you travel by airplane, you'll often need it anyway.

Edit: An official ID card would do the same job, but as I said I can't get that anymore.
Originally posted by PalynkaI live in an EU country too. I have always been told that I need my passport to go places within the EU. I have always shown my passport when travelling, and even within Ireland I need my passport for work and such. I wasn't aware that there were any rules that say you can travel within the EU without a passport, but even if there are (and I don't mean that I doubt that you are right on that point) you won't get far without having problems if you don't have it. I'll have to look this "Schengen" thing up... give me a minute, I'll probably be eating a whole crow pie in a moment...

Ok, I've found it. Ireland and England are not "implementing countries" yet. So you shouldn't be able to fly to England without a passport... but I see what you're talking about. I apologise for my ignorance...
