Keeping them alive might just change the views of other would-be attackers, especially those who have been misled to believe that they will go to heaven if they die a martyr's death 'in battle.'

I realize that giving guns to the citizens will never be accepted in such a state controlled socialist country as the UK, but for the love of God, at least arm your police.
